OK so its finally in the budget . My question is , what are good roof pitch ? My neighbor has a great size house but it rains down inside . I see a lot of pics on here and I wonder Do you just deal with it or does your design not cause the drips . Thanks for help

I have a 6/12 pitch and a steel roof, with spaces between the deck (purlins?). It rained inside before I had a hood., now, no rain with a hood.
This being said, next time I'd make a solid deck, use felt (or better water/ice shield) and then put the steel roofing on top.

My original sugarhouse had purlins with roofing over them. Condensation dripped off every purlin. I cut foam insulation sheets in between each rafter. I ran the bottom of the insulation just out beyond the top plate on the walls. Now any condensation at least runs out side the building.
Almost forgot my roof is a 5/12 pitch.

Thanks . I like the openess of not having a hood . Maybe enough rain inside and thatll change my mind . Im trying to get all settled on design . I will be the assistant in the construction . I have 3 great friends that work well together and all have construction skill , but I need to tell them what I want design to be . Ive read lots on here mostly , that say not to put up a roofing material that when it drips you dont want back in syrup pan . I get that . My evap is 2 x 5' and will have coupala up top that is 7' long by 4' wide .

Sugarwood, My set up is with no hood and no drips. My father build a square suspended frame a few feet longer and wider than our arch at 6'6" off the ground. He hung the frame from the rafters and then put in clear poly from the frame up to the cupola. This way all steam is channeled from arch to cupola and as a result there is no steam in the sugarhouse at all. Then under poly we have a gutter around the base of the frame that collects any drips and dumps it into a bucket.

You will not get rain in your sugarhouse as long as you board up the roof completely with pine boards before roofing. (i.e., don't use strapping and metal roof). I wouldn't go any less pitch than a 7:12.

Rain comes from a metal roof exposed to the "living space" on the underside. If you deck the roof and then put your
metal roofing on top you should be fine. Drips add to the experience, rain is a pain.
