I've done a couple boils this year on a new Leader WSE 2X4. Keeping that thing good and hot. I'm getting ready to boil again this weekend and needed to rotate the syrup pan and I've got a LOT of sediment int the syrup pan, flue pan, and float box. It moves in the liquid just like sand but it's not sticking to the pan bottom, I can move it with my finger. I've boiled off about 150 gallons this year and made some very passible A amber.

Any one have any idea what this is? Just your standard Niter?

Thanks guys

RC, yes, that's niter. It just hasn't had a chance to adhere to the pan yet. I've had a 2x4 WSE stretched to a 2x6 for several years. As long as you are rotating the pan, you might as well drain it and clean it. See my other posts for detailed instructions.

Marc,
Thanks for the info. I've asked around since posting and everyone says the same thing. When I rotate I run my sweet out through a pre-filter and clean the pan. With that much niter I think I need it as clean as possible.
Thanks again.
