I hear ya. Does not look good for here today either. We got around two inches of more snow and the wind is blowing out of the north making it cold. Wife is getting sick of me pacing back and forth from garage.

I'd kill for 5 gallons right about now. We only got maybe 3 in the last two days out of 50 taps!

Just tapped this morning. 22 silver maples, 48 taps. Still plenty of snow on the ground, but plenty of sun today and a high about 38 here in De Pere. Only 2.5 gallons today, but most bags had little dribbles, and the several trees that got good long exposure to the sun today had about 1-2 pints in the bags by my estimate. Shouldn't be long and collecting will be more worthwhile.

I was a little discouraged Friday when I emptied my buckets. Didn't even check them yesterday. I sure hope these guys are right about rainy days like today bringing us a sap run. I didn't think the weather looked very good for us the coming week either, highs in the mid to upper 30's without a lot of sunshine. I did finish off 5 pints, but only because one corner of my pan burnt. It's almost pitch black, but doesn't taste too bad. I'll never do that again. Good thing I had just started and didn't ruin a big batch. It wasn't just that though, I also learned that my pan is warped. O well, I will deal with it. I tapped a week ago today here in SE WI, and am beginning to wonder if I should have waited another 7-10 days.

I had 20 gallons off of 136 taps today and collected 7 gallons yesterday. How much sap do I need to fire up and sweeten a 2 x 6. I may have to use water in the flue pan and just cook down the sap in the syrup pan as it does not look very good for a few days. At least the sap is about 3% so far. The lower sections of the 2 woods are running some but the higher parts are not running at all, both face to the NE so that may be why they are slow but the yard trees I have are not giving much at all either. The one woods may have to wait a little bit to get to as there is getting to be too much water for the snowmobile and the snow is too deep for the 4 wheeler.
