7/16 tap.... drill size

I will be using tubing w/ buckets this year. I purchased 7/16 taps with tubing and my Question is

WHAT size and type of drill bit would be used to drill hole in tree? How far do you put the tap in, so it is just about flush to the bark?

You use a 7/16" bit, and I would got about 1.5"-2" deep for tap hole depth
