Just curious, as I was given a used felt cone filter, how many seasons or gallons can I expect to get out of one of these filters before it needs to be replaced. Thanks.

It depends on how old it is. If it was new you should be able to get 3 or 4 seasons out of it. After every time I filter my finished syrup, I clean the filter with just warm water. NO SOAP!!!!!! Do not ring it out because you will break down the fibers. I just hang it up and let it dry.

One more important thing,… I label my filters top and bottom, so when you rinse them out, push the sediment out from the bottom, so that you aren't pushing the sediment back into the filter
We use up a filter every year, but I like to start with a new one when we are into the light stuff. At the end of the season the dark stuff really stains the filter, and we don't want it to mess up our light stuff at the beginning of the season.

I filter twice but use a different filter the second time. I get a new one every other year and use the newer one for the second time I filter just before I bottle.
