Look for a company called Yarde Metal they have them all over the country. They have a surplus, culled section that might work for you. Lee

I built a hood this winter using 24ga. stainless. I paid $36 for a 3x8 sheet of scrap. It was plenty thick.

I found a really good deal on 26ga. food grade; maybe not my first choice but it made a nice hood and vent..Once it was formed with corners and seams it was plenty sturdy.
