Lately I've been busy with my mom. She's 92 and she kept me busy this week.
She had a bad cold about 3 weeks ago. I took her to the Dr's and he wrote a couple of prescriptions and got a chest X ray (lungs clear). Her cold got better, until last Monday. It returned, worse than before. Took her to Dr yesterday, another X ray. New prescriptions. Now I need to use a nebulizer (?) 4x a day. X ray good again. A new round of new prescriptions. Got to give my time to mom. Tomorrow, lawyers for selling my old house, then meet mom (a daytime helper will take her) at the Dr's. I should be able to get there before mom actually gets in to see the Dr.
No maple done yet this week. Sap should run today, 1st time. I may not even be able to get up to start vacuum, I'll see.
My sister (and BIL) will be back from Fla. the last week in March, then she can take most of the load. I hope the season holds on long enough to get some syrup made, but mom comes first.
Prayers appreciated.
Dave

Dave,

If your able to sugar this year then great but be willing to walk away from it for a season if your mom needs you. I'm sure having you close means the world to your mom at this time in her life. If I was 92 having my kids with me and helping me would be the greatest gift I could ask for. I will be praying for both of you.

It would suck to not tap this year especially as it looks like it will be really good. But you will always have your trees to tap. At 92 with health issues, your mom needs you now. Sending healing energy.

Hi Maple Flats:

Very honerable what your doing. In the heat of the moment it seems like all bad is happening, confusing times,,,time will be on your side. Yoy will never regret helping mom and never look back at this and say "Man, I missed my sapping."

You will have inner joy that you helped when really needed. Maybe it is a test from higher above !! This shows your character.

I will bet you get time before your sis and BIL get back, to get out there and get your sugaring going, maybe not as much time back there as you expected, but you wont get blanked.

I,m proud of your decision, and I am sure many people here would trade you places if they HAD a mother to spend time with.

Be strong and you will get through this, with sap even !!

Good luck and my thoughts are with you.

Prayers Sent! I would definately take care of Mom 1st...but ask the Doc if the Steam from Boiling would help Mom's cold?! She might enjoy that time with you too! Give Mom a big hug for me!
