View Full Version : Steel drum for sap storage
Looking at purchasing some steel drums that contained fruit juice, was wondering if they would be ok to store sap in? Was going to go with the plastic ones but was worried about them giving off bad tastes

not unless they are SS. Then they must be cleaned completely.

I have seen steel barrels that have a thin plastic insert in them.
The barrel can rust all it wants, the plastic insert is perfect. They are thin, flimsy and need to be inside a barrel to perform.
I dont know where to get those inserts, but I am sure they can be found.
Good luck.

I use a steel 55 that was from honey, still had some in it and I know the guy that I got it from, works great to collect,I leave the lid on it has a binder on it to close it and pump into it from my bildge pump, then when i either pump into drums in the snow or bucket out of it to fill evaporator when removeing the lid. Also easy to clean with removalble lid.It has a gasket on lid.
