What do you all use as a gasket under your pans against the cement block to prevent smoke from the arch from coming out.
Would it be safe to use a layer of ROXUL, rock wool insulation as a gasket?
The wood stove rope gasket works somewhat, but not the best.

Fiberglass sill sealer or Pipe wrap. 3.5 inches wide comes in varying lengths. cheap too.

go to local stove shop and ask for door window gasket. it's 1" wide by 1/8th thick. perfect to seal it up.
if you have a good draft, you shouldn't get any smoke coming out except for when you reload wood. and even then, you shouldn't have much.

I needed to add more height to my stack to get a real good draft or it would smoke out of the seems and pans, etc.

I am right now on my way to our recycle station. I was going to try and salvage the gasket off of an old oven door. They look real promising. Not sure of the maximum temp they can handle though.

I think my thought would be letting to much cold air in. Wood stoves work on a vacuum. If yours leaks smoke then put on a bigger smoke stack. I have never needed anything to seal it off tho because mine sets steel to steel. Harold

Good idea-
My 7" stack is 18' high.
Perhaps I am just stuffing the arch too full to allow good convection.

I was thinking about setting my ps on the cinderblocks, then putting a row or two of bricks around the entire pan, I think that will help to insulate the pan as well as limit smoke from escaping and cold air from going in between the pan and the blocks.

A proper stack prevents smoke from escaping. The gasket minimizes cold air in. Try outdoor furnace door gasket, or for that mater, wood stove door gasket. It will be thicker and will seal greater variations in the fit between the blocks and the pan. After you put sap in and use it a few hours the gasket will conform.

a roll of pan gasket works best for me
