Found a small dead squirrel drowned in my sap bucket... My first thought was, man that's a big moth" I'm using the old rough style lids

With the number of red squirrels in my area, very glad that hasn't happened to me yet...they're not very smart!

Throw it out, dump that batch of sap and sanitize the bucket.
This is where different states or regions joke and say if you are from ......., just wring it out and boil the sap. Don't!

I get one or two drowned mice in the buckets every year. It always seems like it is a nearly full bucket of sap that I have to throw out too.

So glad I've only ever found bits of bark and sometimes a dead moth. No floating rodents yet. Thank gawd.
