Thanks Terry
I'm definitly anxious to try it out. In the off season I want to do stainless stell over the sides to dress it up and cover the dampers and air plumbing.

Wow, that almost look store bought.... Very nice job. That ought to get you 40+ GPH I would think? Do you have any pics with the pans on it yet?
How did you get the bricks to stay along the wall? Are they full brick? Mine is similar but I didn't have time to put nozzles in the door. Let us know how she does this season, if the warm temps ever get here..... :(

I'm hoping it will put me close to 60gph. My old evaporator would run along at 43GPH pretty steady. I used 1" blanket and then full brick on the sides and half brick on the floor. Will keep you all posted

Didn't see the "build" photos. Does your forced air come through those nozzles at the "shelf",.....AND through the floor?
I'm looking to build ANOTHER masonry evaporator within the next year or so and was interested in the induced combustion air "above the fire" as this is how my Jutol wood stove works,............and works well.
Not forced but induced at that point.
VERY nice by the way!
Thanks!

Sorry no build pictures, thats one area I'm bad at. Yes the forced air comes in at the back just below that step theres 12 1/2" nozzles and also through the door and through the floor

Jeff- depending on what you had for an arch before, I wouldn't be surprised if you get more GPH from your pans than going from 43 to 60. When we built a similar "air everywhere" (AE?) arch based on 802maple's design, we went from 50-55 gph with a stock arch to 100+ gph with the same pans.

Eric
The previous arch was a traditional lightning arch modified with a blower and overfire air. I would very happy if I could get better than 60. I'm hoping this will give me some more flexibility when boiling.

Looks great! Nice job. One suggestion I have is to put some expanded metal or something on the door to protect the insulation. I left mine uncovered like yours and the insulation got destroyed from wood coming in contact with it. I didn't think I would touch it but I was sure mistaken!

I boiled last week once and got 34 gph. That is almost 3x what I was getting last year. :D

Just an update, I boiled on the evaporator last night and all I can say is wow!! I dont really know the GPH because I was running it slow to get a feel for it but I was running the stack between 1000-1200 and it was boiling hard, all while firing it about every 12 minutes with about 4 pieces of wood. I cant wait to get sap and then really let it boil.

well I cant be sure about gph/efficiency but im pretty sure you get one or the other not both. Firing every 12 minutes I don't believe you will get the gph but syrup made to wood consumption is going to be out of the world. now you fire that beast like you did with old arch you will definitely see a increase in gph. I had mine running last sat for 4.5 hrs, approx 126 gal sap and used 4 wheel barrel of wood and they weren't stacked high just over rim of barrel. I did 28 gph from start to finish. I had some blue and purple flames at front of rear pan but thinking of turning AUF down a little see what happens I moved my stack therm from stack to arch door once rig got rocking I had 1000+ at the front of arch with my preheated AOF. It took about an hour or just over to get it all warmed up.
Could you show more pics of your adjustment knobs and cabling, very interested in how you did it.

Flat,
I'm sure to that the efficiency will go out the window when I start to push it. Some things I found out were I dont need to run the over fire air dampers full open, the grate air doesnt need to be opened up much until the end of the burn time, now this stuff might change once I load the fire box up. I really need to dial in my firing times and air settings but so far things look promising. Heres a link to a short video I took just after firing.

Nice fire going there. I put in 2 sensors as well. One right under the middle of the syrup pan and one in the flu stack. Cranked up full bore I was getting 1600-1800 under the syrup pan and 7-800 in the stack. I think I need a smaller front pan as I almost burned the first batch coming off. :( Keep the pics and videos coming....

My first year, we built this the weekend before last and boiled last Saturday. 180gal down to 30 in 4 hours without a pre-heater, with a 1/2" tube feed that couldn't keep up. We drew off 1 gallon and left the sweet in the pans for next boil. We had the stack up to 1450F, but it's better on the wood pile around 1200.732273237324
