I finished my new wood fired oil tank arch outfitted with 2x4 pans. I started a fire in it tonight and had great draw through the stack. I did not bring it up to temp because I ran out of time tonight. How long should it take? Thoughts?

Mine is also built out of an old oil tank I have a 3x5 pan on it. Takes a good hour hour and a half to get rolling hot. I lined the inside with bricks and put least a half ton of sand toward the back end of it. Once it gets hot it stays there a bit though.

It took us last year about an hour to get a good boil. This year we insolated and fire bricked test boils we got it boiling in half the time

if you're a bit "new" to a brick lined evaporator, beware.

When you get near the 'end" of your run and you want the heat to go away, the bricks hold a TON of heat so very little fire is needed.

No need to ask.

Mine takes about 30min to get her boiling and I don't have any brick or blanket in it and with out it ,it shuts down faster

Make your wood in smaller split sizes. BIG 'ol logs just burn slower.

The smaller the piece the easier the temp comes up for combustion.
