A float box is used to regulate the sap level in your pans. It works like a toilet tank valve. It is a small box which mounts on the side of the evaporator with a float connected to a valve on the sap inlet line. As the sap evaporates and the level lowers in the pan, the float lowers as well and allows the valve to open. When the pans fill back up to the desired depth, the float closes the valve. The float is adjustable to control the depth of sap.

try looking at my thread homemade float trouble? there is a lot to setting one up correctly. depends on pan size alot. basically, you need alot of quick flow. if you want to know how to make one, or you can buy one for $250 from patrick phaneuf. ive spent alot of hours on this area this year, we can talk more.
