Do you think its worth tapping on Sunday after 2 full days of cool temps to thaw out the trees?
IS it better to worry about drying tap holes vs missing the early runs and possible short season like last year?
Thanks.

150 buckets, and lots of hills between the trees and back to the sugar shack !!

Like me, I suggest you wait a bit longer.

SOunds like the best advice since the trees are supposedly quite stressed this year.
Will wait for the Maple Production Report to come out next week.

http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/crops/updates/maple/2013.02.18.htm

But I will put a few test taps out on Wednesday and report back.
They are calling for snow midweek; and we just got whalloped last week with much needed snow.

Ya, I would tap too. Maybe start afew and see what happens. If any runs, go full time and put in your narmal amount. heck, put in a few extra too !!

Good luck and let us know the results please.

Parry Sound still dry.....
Tapped one of the historically good trees, and the sawdust was bone dry.

I am in Coldwater Ontario and I had a small run for the last 2 days. Just tapped yesterday. 80 Taps. The big trees are still dormant but the 12" to 18" are awake and going!
Tomorrow looks like a good day with sun so I think I will have about 50 gal to boil on thu.
