can any one tell me the right size drill bit for metal taps/

Metal taps come in a couple of sizes, 7/16 and 5/16 in. The smaller sized ones are tree saver spouts. The larger ones are the old traditional size. Use the same size drill bit for whichever one you think you have. If they are older taps then you probably have 7/16in.
