I tapped 90 in Waldo, ME on Saturday; all field edge and roadside maples. Most trees dribbled some sap today, hoping to have enough to sweeten the pans this weekend. Planning on tapping another 40 this coming weekend.

Put in 175 yesterday and the other 550 today to finish off my vacuum line. Will wait for the gravity taps. Nothing more than a fast drip out the end of the line when I finished. At least i'm ready when it does run.

We've also started this week. 50 taps in so far (20 yesterday, 30 today), 100 more or so to go. First empty this am, about 11 gallons from 20 taps. Nothing dripping today, and now it's snowing. Time to put in more firewood and clean more buckets. I'm sidelined with bad knee so hubby and dogs are doing the lion's work!

60 in so far. Probably going for 150 this year. First boil today, 60 gallons down to about 4 gallons on the cookstove to finish down. Waiting for some good weather.

Hopefully tomorrow is going to be as nice as they say. This is killing me, I'm still waiting for my first big collection! I'm assuming from listening to others talk the wind has been the enemy the last few days. 68 taps and just waiting.

, I boiled a little last week, but the weather has kept the sap frozen tight in my spickets.
I was going to add more taps today, but I am concerned about splitting the tree when I lightly tap the spicket in. We are 25dgrs here. Your thoughts?

02-22-2013, 09:19 AM
Im not even sure how many i have in now but i know im over 350 or so and i have only about 50 or better gallons waiting to be collected. I went out last night to collect if i was able to and everything was frozen solid. Hopefully it will loosen up today. Another storm this sunday for us so i guess time will tell.

Set some taps and it was running really well tues. and weds. The few trees I tap wake up real fast as they face steeply south and not deep in the woods. I could've tapped as early as 2/12 because I'm sure they were running with highs 38-45 that week. Then winter returns...and changes my plans to boil early!

MainelyMaple

I got 275 in today. Slow going changing all the taps. I'll pick away at it this week and hopefully be 100% by next weekend.

I placed 100 taps this past weekend in Oxford. About 60 on sugar maple and the rest on reds. Lots of snow on the lids this AM but I will see how the run goes with this sun. I hope to boil tonight but we'll see.......

At school, we have 24 taps along the wood line. To get there we have to cross a huge field, the kindergarten children get real tired after a round of collecting.

about 175 gallons of sap today... hopefully more tomorrow and i'll have my first boil.

if it's a choice between no snow and an early spring like last year or storm after storm like this year i'll gladly take the snow. Should help moderate the warmup and make for a decent season.

Drilled a couple of trees this am and they started to run so put out about 30 buckets and tapped the trees on the pipeline (about 30 more). Trees out in the open and southern aspects ran a little here today. Trees in the woods weren't running at all! Wisdom said "do it next week", but the fever won out!

100 in here, 40 gallons this afternoon. The rest are woods trees, may tap them this weekend. Enough to fill the evap, but not boil much yet.

Still tapping today. Wet snow made for poor traveling in the woods. About 40 here but cloudy most of the day. Most trees were dripping at least a little but only a few were really running. Hoping to finish tapping this weekend.

Got a semi good collect last night...74 taps got me about 67 gallons in two days. Boiled a little today and noticed a few inches in my buckets again. Hopefully these next few days will fill'em back up.

There is definitely a "Maple Sugar Bug!!!!"

Finished tapping the last 50 here in Lisbon last Saturday. 100 taps overall and waiting on the sun as most of my Reds are in the woods. Got the arch going on Wednsday and boiled about a gallon of light amber. Alot of sugar sand, filtering was slowww... Got to work on that. Anyway, everyone have a great season.

...Tapped in on 2/20. The few trees I tap wake up real fast as they face steeply south and not deep in the woods. I could've tapped as early as 2/12 because I'm sure they were running with highs 38-45 that week...

Pulled 40 taps on 3/30. Cloudy sap in most of the buckets. Snow disappeared from around the trees several days earlier. Not interested in late season sap/syrup. I got five weeks of nice high quality sap from these trees and I'm thankful!
