Under the flue pan last year I was 1/2" +/-. I think the vermiculite and cement top layer settled because now I am more like a 1.5" gap. It doesn't boil as hard as lats yr.
Question.
I want to add a layer of ceramic blanket to that area but I think I t will actually touch the bottom of the flues. Anyone see this as a problem?
Thanks in advance.

Add a piece of cement board on top, it comes 1/4" and 1/2" and it's cheap $10-$15.00 that's what I have and works good.

That might work. Are you referring to like "durock" or " hardi board"? Like you would use for tile or arch board for insulating the arch?
I just boiled 10 hrs for 5 gallons!! Last yr I was making 1-1.5 gallons in a hour. Somethings different and that's the only obvious thing. My wood is more hemlock and slabs than pine like last yr but the wood is 3+ yrs old and super dry. Gotta figure it out.

Assuming you mean the Harding board for ceramic tile?
If I did go with ceramic blanket, which I have already, and it did tough the flues would it bother them? Make a hot spot or something?

Sorry yes the Harding board. I don't thing you would want it to touch do to wanting the flame to wrap the flues.

More concrete dust and spritz it with water would work fine
