i was curious if there was a rule of thumb[formula]that works best for the total length of run from sap inlet to draw off?would a flat 2x5 with one divider[10 ft.]be enough to be able to draw off syrup?

You would be better off with 2 dividers making it a 3 section. My neighbor has a 2x6 set up like this and he gets a gradient set up. I think 2 sections would just mix to much.
I am not sure if there is a rule of thumb or not. I do believe you would be better off with a 3 section pan though. I used a 2x4 flat pan with three sections (2 dividers) and had no problem setting up a gradient. Actually once the gradient was set up it worked great! Just not very efficient gph wise though.
