sanitizing different kinds of bottles/cans?

I've been using Mason Jars and boiling them before bottling my syrup. I've been looking at plastic and metal cans and wonder if they come sanitized or if I still have to boil them? Thanks for help with a newbie question.

If you hot pack the syrup between 180 and 200 degrees F that generally takes care of sterilizing the container.
