That's what I was thinking, but I'm still fairly new at this. Thanks for the reply.

What is the most reliable weather forecast. I'm constantly checking weather network, environment Canada and accuweather.

yeah mine was about a drip every 10 seconds or so and now nothing since the clouds rolled in. Good luck.

I'm halfway between Halifax and Truro and use Environment Canada's forecast. Weather Network is just too alarmist and always trying to call it a week away.
I have a digital outdoor thermometer that records the high/low temperature. Watching that gives me the best idea when to tap. A couple nice days this time of year typically won't give enough sap to worry about. Definitely keep the cordless drill batteries topped up though!

I am all in.We had a couple worm days and the sap really ran.Made 5 gallons syrup on that boil but looks like it will be a while until next boil as we had another foot of snow Sunday and gives cold for the next 2 weeks.Maplecove

How late can the season run. If I waited 2 weeks before I tapped, am I cutting my potential short? I tapped on March 5th last year but I'm scared to wait much longer than that. Thanks again everyone for the imput.

I usually tap in late February and the sap runs 6 weeks. Still too cold this weekend.

I'm in Richmond county. I only have 30 taps to put out and I'm doing it today. I work nightshift all weekend and too much to do all next week. Maybe I should wait, but my will power isn't strong enough.

, I boiled a little last week, but the weather has kept the sap frozen tight in my spickets.
I was going to add more taps today, but I am concerned about splitting the tree when I lightly tap the spicket in. We are 25dgrs here. Your thoughts?

Just finished my 30 taps. Its 1 dgr celsius here and cloudy, but every tap was dripping. Not fast, but dripping. Now some sunshine would be nice. 25dgr F is almost -4dgr C (sorry it was celsius for me in school from day 1), that seems a little cold to tap, but if the sun is out and hitting your trees thats a different story. I'm still a rookie, but my thoughts are if the trunk feels warm then it should be ok. I have no info to back that up, but it seems to work for me.

I'm located in Margaree Valley. We're still a couple of weeks away from tapping. Way too much snow and cool temps.

So,.............whats all this snow gonna do for us? I have about a foot in my yard, all my buckets will be buried now. Will this help in at the end of the season?

Having some textbook sap weather but no outstanding high sap volumes. Slow and steady it seems when we've had winters with a deep freeze like this winter was...
On par sap wise with the past 2 seasons.

Its been strange for me here in Cape Breton. The two weeks prior to thursday, I only collected 12 litres of sap. But in the last four days I've collected just over 80 litres. I hope its keeps up a little longer.
