How does everyone comp their friends that help? I've been giving them syrup, but now that we are selling some I need to be fair to them and the guy that's paying for everything (me).

You could give a hundred dollars at the end of the season
Or something on a salary scale. I pay all my guys- friends
by the hour but every operation is different.

Discuss it with them and find out what they would like. i pay all my help by the hr plus i give them syrup also.

cash and syrup works for true friends that enjoy the work. Having a employee, even a seasonal one would be a a whole diffrent thread.

I trade for firewood. And Syrup. I am cash poor, so I try to find something else I can offer that makes it fair.

I usually feed everyone well during the entire season and give them plenty of syrup. If you plan on giving them syrup, make sure they get it right away. The helpers are as anxious to get the stuff as I am, and it's easy to overlook this at such a busy time.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I will continue with the syrup comp and figure either one or two quarts per weekend and if they give me grief they loose their deer blind!
