Wondering what to do. Tap this week for a run or wait for after the cold snap next week. Im located in queensbury ny. Most all the trees are full sun yard trees. Thoughts?

Go for it. A cold snap will hault any bacteria growth in the tap holes.

You should be ok to tap, especially if you are using check valves or using inserts for the heath spouts.Even if not using these, you should be ok,unless we get a long warmspell, then bacteria will

Started to tap today because the kids were driving me nuts. Should get the rest in tomorrow. It was running pretty well this evening dispite the drop in temp. May be able to boil by weekend.

Pulled in 100 gallons of sap today (from over the past four) and boiled for a few hours to sweeten the pans. Will have to drain them as I'm not going to be boiling for at least a week (away for a well deserved vacation).... though I'll have some locals emptying my tanks if they need it.

Sure was nice getting things going again. Just need to fix a couple of slow leaks from the head tank to the evap.

Good luck!

Everything is frozen solid, guess I jumped the gun a little. Looks like it may run this weekend, sure hope so! I have never had all my buckets completely frozen. I it worth it to dump them or wait for them to thaw? I mean they are 3/4 full and frozen solid, not a drop of concentrated sap.

Tapped first 150 of the year. Felt great to be in the woods in the fresh air. 350 more to go, should be done by Sunday.
