Fuel Oil Evaporator

I'm making an evaporator out of an old fuel oil tank. Should I be concerned about any old fuel oil residue when I'm making my syrup? I'm gonna thoroughly wash it out before I use it. I'll make sure to post pics as I get them. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Once I cut the top off mine I brought it outside scrapped the gunk out the best I could. I took my torch and set it on fire. I had black smoke for a few minutes and then it burned itself out. It doesn't burn like some people think it took a little bit to get it going. The inside was as clean as could be when I was done, Good Luck you will never regret building it. You will increase your evaporation rate to 8 to 10 gallons a hour. Lee
