So i know the way that most smoke stacks fit together, with the inside edge going with the flow of the smoke, but as i went to put the first length of stack onto the base stack, i just cant seem to get it on there....should i try harder or does the tapered end go inside the base stack???

I use crimpers all the time for fitting galvanized pipe together for HVAC and dryer venting. Might those solve your dilemma?

Usually can find these at Lowes or the other place in the hand tools department.

It should be on the outside of the base stack, like you said "go with the flow".

you may need to trim off the pre crimped end of the stovepipe to fit over it, but as others said it should slide over the outside of the base stack or else your likely to get ash outa there especialy with forced draft. I just made a new stainless base stack for my evaporator this year, my old galvanized one was pretty done after 4 seasons!

Thanks for the responses...i used some old electrical pliers/ wire strippers and crimped the ends and it fit fine. Finally got the pipe through the roof!!Gunna post pics of my spin on the garbage can roof jack system on a different thread.

Just the opposite, not about smoke going up, but about water coming down.
