I am anxious to tap and see mine. My trees usually are pretty high, around 3-3.5. I also saw in a nursery catalog a species called Sweet Silver Maple, They were designed to have higher sugar content and be tappable within ten years of planting. Ill post the catalog tomorrow.

Anyone else with sugar percentages?

Almost all my sap that I have collected so far, 1500gals, was right at 1.5%

I've gotten almost 1500 gal. so far also. My sugar content has been 1.0 to 1.1%. I had that last year also. It really hurts to boil that much for so little.

Things are starting to thaw out today and the taps eeked out a meager 20 gallons.
My sugar maples tested at 2.5% but that is a bit misleading since I was throwing ice out of the buckets. My reds tested at 1.8% though on the tubing system so there was no "ice RO" going on there.
I was quite pleased but we'll see how long it lasts as the flows pick up.;)

Our reds have been around 1.2-1.3(300 taps) our sugars(1100taps) have been 1.7-1.9 .
Hoping that after this major freeze things look a little better.

South East PA we have been getting about 2% average from our 5 Norways and 4 reds. Oddly enough the Norways are the sweeter of the two.

My last 55 gallon drum of all reds was 1.3 Northwest Lancaster County, Elizabethtown, Pa. 86/1.3=66.15 gallons to make 1 gallon (but it tastes so good!)

No they are not roadside trees. They are located on a moderately steep hillside. 5/16 drops and lats into 1inch main with sap puller. Gues we are just lucky so far!
