Hi Guys...you have not failed me yet, so here is my next question...

I upgraded to a used 2x6 evap. I am using my flat pans to save money this year.

I get a great boil right over the fire box and almost to the end of the ramp, but the back pan does not boil.

1. How much room should there be between the firebrick/sand and the bottom of my pan?
2. how do I know if I need to create more of a ramp or space under the stack?
3. We have a cap on the top of the chimney, should I remove that?

Thanks for any input!!!!

i would remove the cap, you probably need more of a draft...i had the oppisite problem, my flue pan was ripping and my syrup pan was hardly boiling

I would remove the cap and bring the pan closer to the fire or heat. Remember that arch was designed for a flue pan and i am assuming a raised flue. I would bring the sand or what ever you are useing within about 1/4" or so. If it has a hard time pulling a draft open the gap a bit. You want to compress that fire and heat between the pan and sand. Also when you put wood in the fire box try putting it further towards the back of the box that may help too........maybe.

Remove the cap and you acually will need about 1-1.5" underthe pans. Anyless than that and the fire will choke.
