I got my hands on two fire truck tanks today a 2,500 and 4,000 gallon tanks. Insulated all stainless. They are the complete beds off the fire trucks lights tool boxes and all for $900 each. I couldn't pass them up at that price. Even have 2- 2 1/2" threaded fittings on the bottom to plumb into and a nice large camp on top to crawl inside to clean them!6525

Great deal. Those are a huge buy. It is very likely they need to be super cleaned. Fire trucks haul any water they can get in a hurry, open ponds, polluted etc. You will need to get them clean physically and chemically.

Did they use foam in them that would be one of the things I would want to know.

were those originaly milk truck tanks? that seems to be a common conversion in small town fire depts, usualy the tanks designed for just water haulage arnt insulated that i have seen.

Wire up those lights so that turn on when the tank is full! Now that would be cool!

Great find.

Yeah I was surprised when I went and seen them and they were insulated. I expected normal single wall tanks. I have a chemical I got from a local company that sells milk bulk tanks to the farmers to clean them with probably wait until the end of next week when it's a little warmer out. It was 10 degrees with 30 mph winds here today!

Be careful about what you use for a chemical to clean them if you are going to get inside and scrub them. Some of the chemicals sold for cleaning dairy food grade stainless can give of harmful, even deadly fumes in a closed container. The opening in the top of those tanks is not big enough to give adequate ventilation if there is fumes being put out by the cleaner. You really don't much more than a good food grade soap to clean stainless steel. If you are concerned about it being clean enough, use soap rinse well, then repeat the soap and rinsing. No sense of risking your health using a strong cleaner.

Fantastic buy you got there. I'm hoping they clean up for you. I would think that they would using the right stuff and some elbow grease. Do you need both of them? I'd give you $900 for one!!! :D

Great find.

That wouldn't be hard, float in the tank, pressure switch on the outside, toggle switch in the cab or something so you can put power to it to use it, and to flip the off when you are rolling down the road.... Just sayin......

Awesome buy! Should be able to store/haul some serious sap in those. I have to admit the Fire Chief in me is pretty jealous of your purchase. We bought a new 4,000 Stainless tanker in 2006, the chassis was about $80K but the tank and body were another $120K for a total of just shy of $200K. Bet you could go to one of your local fire co's and maybe sell them the lights, some of the fittings, maybe the 10" Newton dump off the rear and make your $900 bucks back fast!

Yeah when I first looked at them I asked how long till they would be ready to go and they said they are ready now you get what you see. I thought for sure they'd want some of the stuff off them but nope. I plan to dismantle them over the summer it's way too cold out now and too much to do to get started for the season

just remember if your running an R.O. not to use any clorine bleach when cleaning. it will mess up your membrane.
