OK I have been looking at a lot of post on coffee urns for bolting syrup. What brand are you using and do they all keep the same temp around 185. I only seen one mention on here it was a Westbend 58002 party perk for about 40$(aluminum)and will this one be ok, I just don't want to buy something I will regret

I found an old 100 cup west bend on Craigslist. It holds 185 very well.
This is what you need to do though to filter/bottle.
First, put a little water in it and turn it on.
Wait till the ready light comes on if it has one. It goes through a brew cycle which is a lot higher temp.
When the ready light goes on, the heating element holds 185.
Dump the water and immediately start to filter syrup into the urn.
That's pretty much it.
Here's a picture of someone else's setup. 6478

so he is filtering into the cone thru the bucket..so the hot syrup is actually touching the plastic bucket? Dont know it that is the way to go or not. I bottle using the urn too. I do the same thing, fill urn up with water, turn on and let it go thru the cycle. at the same time, I have my syrup in a SS pot on the stove heating it to 185 degrees. I dump out the water, pour in the syrup and bottle as fast as I can.

I use clothes pins to clip my cone filter in the bucket. The syrup never touches the bucket, but I've read on here people filter directly into plastic buckets with no problems. Bucket gets a little soft but holds up.

Well I just got my new coffee urn and not to happy .Filled with water and let it heat up until light came on, put some in a cup and temp was 168 took top off and temp was 178 near top, I know I need 180 -190 to bottle, if I put my finshed syrup in at 190 will it stay around that temp if I bottle it right away, if not ill send the pot back and use someting else

I love my coffee urn, a real time saver. You will probably have to wait until the syrup cools down to 185, but then it will hold the temps long enough to bottle.

Just a thought. If you had the urn full, the sides dissipate a lot of heat. You could wrap some foil bubble insulation around it to retain some of the heat.

I found that if I heat my bottles up before hand the temp is 184 inside and 178 at room temp .I did a test by putting 190 water in my urn then bottling, by heating the bottles first helped a lot
Nice job on your evaporator(psparr)glad to see it up and running

We have used an urn for two years now and love it. We started wrapping the urn with a towel to help hold in heat last year. I like insulation idea. It has saved us a lot of time since my wife can bottle by herself when needed.

Thanks. Still learning it but very happy with how it performs.

Last year I picked up an Avantco 110 cup double wall stainless urn. I preheat like mentioned. Unit works great for me so far. Cone filters fit it nice.

Rugburn-
I looked up the specs on this unit and it says brewing mode 201-205 degrees. Do you know what the temp is with the unit on "keep warm" mode ?
Thanks

It's been a whole year, can't remember the exact #. I'll run a test and get back to you.
