Well last year I left Sugarbush Supplies with my new half pint evaporator and forgot the Pan Gasket. They were great and actually had it to me the next day but I had already fired up the Evaporator a half hour before the mail lady showed up with it!
So I am prepping for this season and It probally has instructions but just incase it doesn't do I just lay it on and set the pan on it or do I need some fireproof caulk/cement?

The gasket is probably wider then where the pan meets the arch. If this is true I would let the excess hang out side the arch. This will give you more contact area on the bottom of the pan for the fire to hit.
I learned this with my half pint. Every bit of heat you can get to the pan the better.
For what it's worth.

I have a half pint too. Just lay that gasket on there like Paul said. The pan will hold it in place.
Once you're boiling you might see smoke weeping out from around the gasket - just poke more gasket material in the gap until it stops.
You may also see smoke wisping out from the seams of the half pint arch. I keep a tube of woodstove gasket cement handy and smear it into any seams that are leaking. It cures real quick!
Have a great season!

Hey Don:
Curious why you needed a new door.
I,m thinking for your new unit, maybe I am confused.

Yes the New Unit...I have a thread on here from last year where the door was warped and I didn't know if it was supposed to be like that or not. Leader saw my post on here and contacted me and sent me a new door!

Very nice of them to do that without questions.
Good public relations for them. I know I can Google your evape rate but I,ll just ask here, lol.
What is the rate for the Half Pint ?
Thanks.

I had to google it lol " Ideal for the backyard sugar maker with 15 to 50 taps, this dandy little unit will evaporate 4 gallons of sap per hour. "
If I remember right though I had 40 Gallons of Sap and boiled it down in 6 hours and stopped it when it was 1 1/2 inches deep and then finished it on my Turkey Fryer.
So 40 / 6 = about 6.5 Gallons Per Hour. I'll have to keep closer track this year.

With the half pint I had I could do almost 11 gallons an hour. With a Blower and burning mostly softwood.
