View Full Version : Another war spell coming!
Weather is calling for 40 degrees and rain next week (southern Maine). I'd hate to tap this soon and have my holes produce less during the main run. Last two winters have been so unpredictable. What is every one else thinking?

with this cold spell we have had could take 2 days just to thaw out and the long range is for friday to turn cold again just not bitter cold.I say if you dont have many thousands of taps, hold off for 2-3 weeks.

A couple weeks ago for what they call the January thaw, I had 5 days straight daytime temps above freezing and no sap. I tapped two trees on the second day and nothing came. Watched the next three days and no sap at all in 5 days. We are now back to freezing temps day and night. The trees knew to hold off.
Just my two cents.

I won't start for a couple weeks. Unless the forecast really changes.

Well guys, taking lessons from last year about this time, I am going to tap this Saturday and hope for the best. Combination of buckets and tubing totaling 105 taps.
