i saw that to! i would be kinda worried about tapping when its this cold, with possiblity splitting the wood...but they need to start early with that many taps!

I tried running line tonight after work. My fingers couldn't take it. I had to give up after doing 4 trees.

Did I hear someone say 70,000 taps? man that's a whole bunch of holes to drill. They better start early...I did some quick math on a calculator and here's what I came up with:
If you did one tap every minute, that would be 60 per hour. 70,000 taps divided by 60 per hr = 1166.66 hours. 1166.66 hours divided by a 24 hr day = 48.61 days working round the clock for a crew of one.
If you had a crew of 20 you could do it in 2½ days, but you're still working around the clock, and you still need to maintain 1 tap per minute. The numbers are astounding... Hats off to Bascoms, that's what I say.

And think of those maple operations with 100,000 or more. They probably started a week or so ago.
I was on a tour at a very large bush that started tapping just after Christmas.
Yeah, like LaPierre Maple Farms with 140,000 taps+

Just talk with Michel St-Laurent monday night , an employee of Lapierre sugarbush, they had start tapping last week, but have to stop this week, because of low temperature here. minus 24°F today in Milan QC

they said it takes them about 3 weeks to finish 70K taps. I was out running tubing all day yesterday, it was 17*F when I came in at dark. good gloves!!! Spend the money on a good pair. they do get a little fumbly until you get used them. My wife says I am an alien mutant whe it comes to working outside in cold weather. I had on sweat pants under my insulated overalls, and a teeshirt and fleece on top I came in and had to cange my Tee shirt it was sweaty!!! oh well!!! I just need to be ready to tap by the 30th of this month. should be an easy goal to reach!!! just watch ing the weather !!!!! with 400 taps it doesn't take 3 weeks to tap!!! :)
