Hello,
I have purchased a farm with 24 acres of woods. I am currently building a new house on this property, so won't be living there until next summer. I have always wanted to make my own Maple syrup, my grandparents used to make it when I was a kid. I wasn't old enough to learn anything, but do remember family getting together for a LONG day of making syrup.

I have some Maples in my woods, plenty to start with and woods all around me that I have access to. I don't plan on trying to do it this year, as I am very busy working on house and a million other small projects. So I plan on doing some research this year and gathering supplies for next year. Plan on doing a lot of research here and probably asking a few questions. Hopefully I can find some locals to learn from this year. See how things are done and donate some free labor.

Welcome to the site, Falcon! Many nice and very knowledgeable people here to help us noobs out. So envious that you have 24 acres plus of woods to tap - you could have a helluva operation going once you get at it. Get that house built and start tapping! :-)

Thanks for the warm welcome. I do plan on doing a lot of reading and research this year. Hope to hook up with a few locals and work and learn. I do plan on looking for equipment thru the summer.

I was at a farm estate sale last year, they had everything one would need to get started. I bid on it awhile, but I was there for some equipment and didn't want to spend too much, then not get the equipment I needed most. Plus I had not researched any prices on sugaring equipment and didn't want to overpay. So now I'm on the hunt again and hopefully with a bit more knowledge.

This is a good wealth of knowledge here but i suggest also going to sugarbush.info forum and getting on there. Nothing against people on here(i am one of them) but sometimes a little more knowledge shows through over there.
