Algier Grates

Need to find a replacement grate for my evaporator. It is the double V design measuring 24" x 4.5". Looks like leader are the closest but they measure 25"? Anyone that has a leader 2x6 unit... is it actually 25"? Anyone have any other ideas for one replacement without replacing all new.

Check with The Maple Guys. They used to sell and boil on an Algier I think.

Get a hold of I think it's Thor Evaporator company. They bought out Algier. I'm sure they would still be making them. I'm pretty sure they make replacement parts for Algier rigs as well.

Are you using forced draft? You could drill and use fire brick. I did this last year and it worked great.

I have an Algier 2x6 and bought some grates for it from Bascom's. They list 24" and a 25" grates for sale - cannot remember which I bought but will check tonight and let you know.

The grates I bought are the 2" wide by 23 1/2" (nominal 24"). Maybe a couple of those would fill in. I also was short one grate so I used a 1.5" black pipe and cut out the bottom half at the two ends so it sat like the real grates on the lips of the arch. With that pipe at the far side of the firebox where it is not as hot, I have used it for 2 seasons and there is hardly any warping.
