I heard a message on the radio that saratoga co is prompting home owners to band their trees against tent catipillars.I have 50 trees in my yard that are pretty isolated from any other trees. Are these sticky bands good at stoping tent catipillars on a small scale? Super sappy

They can be unless the outbreak is so bad that the bands fill up and the live ones just march over top of the stuck ones.

We have had bad infestations of gypsy moth catapillars in the past and the bands didn't do much good. The wind would blow the catapillars from tree to tree above the band. The gypsy moth catapillars would attack the oak trees first but maples were also a favorite if no oaks were available.
