I saw the Guzzler in operation at the Verona 2013 show. This is something that I have considered in the past and this one really got me thinking that it might be the way to go for me. I have 140 taps on already great gravity. this would be a simple setup directly over my tank.

The questions that I asked were basically that when I put my tubing up I didnt install specifically for vac..i.e. I have a few runs over 100 that is for sure and I ahve more than 5 taps on the majority of laterals but its not like I have any laterals wit hlike 15+ taps on them. I was told that any kind of vac is better than none and it would benefit me.

I also asked if this rig could be left unattended say plug it in before I goto work would it be ok. I was told that that would be fine, no problem even if the sap wasent running.

So, curious to know if anyone has this little "sap sucker" or not..and if so is it something that I should look into, even for this year?

The "sap sucker" pumps are made by this company. They utilize the silicon FDA approved parts for the maple industry. The price difference is significant from buying one right from the factory to buying one that says it designed for the maple industry.

They run fine dry but are very easily affected by ice.

Here is the company that makes them...

If you look at The Maple Guys price and the cost straight from Bosworth its not all that different. Its the Goodrich version of the single diaphragm Guzzler that is outrageously marked up because of the fancy blue frame.

OK we ran a bosworth last year not this particular exact unit and had trouble with the knuckle ripping out of aluminum block. the son in law of bosworth even came up to our sugar bush we had it installed on to see if we were doing anything wrong. Never figured out why. the answer is no.
We are definitely going to use one again this year and get the one the maple guys had running.
we had close to 20" vac on ours.
bush was set up for vac but it will work no matter what, its better than just gravity.
I bet under that fancy blue shield is a little different set up, Goodrich sells them but another guy around his area modifies them a little from what I understand. If you look at them side by side the throw of the arm has been extended by a few inches.

ill find some pics and video of ours and post.
1. no we never let it freeze
2. never had to replace diaphragm

I saw goodrich's pump set up and running and it was pulling between 25 and 26 inches without a doubt. I think the other one is good for 20 or so. I dont know what differences there are other than that.

All I know is that both the maple guys and goodriches were right next to each other
at LEME. I asked the man at the maple guys both if they were the same he said yes except for the shield and the goodrich pump had a junction box with relays while the maple guys was not in a junction box.

The guy that makes them lives 20 min from me I have one and I see best results with 500 or less not high vac either only about 18 to 20 inches which is not enough for me we just keep it for backup in case a pimp goes down

I am thinking of running 150 taps on a guzzler next year, any idea what I can expect for an average run per day? 150 Gallons? 200? 250? I am just trying to determine what kind of storage I will need, dump tank size for it to dump into, RO size to build, evaporator capacity. If I have an idea of how many gallons to expect/day then I think I could do the math to figure out the other adaptations I will need to make for my operation. Thanks!

We have a sap puller..266 taps, 5/16 th drops and lats on 1800 ft 1 inch main. Pulls about 5 to 8 incs vac at end of main line. Woods froze up other night and nothing flowing we had 12 inchs of vac.! iTS JUST A PULLER, NOT A HIGH VAC SYSTEM and it does help. You can hear the sap going down the main line. IMHO, if you want a high capacity vac system, spend a few buck and buy the real thing. This works, but not much reserve capacity if you have a few leaks.

http://youtu.be/S4EsXuqsBZw I was able to figure it out finally how to download the video of the sap guzzler, the noise you hear is the water pump I was using empting the tank while I was taking the video. It was pulling around 5" of vac, I did find a couple of saddles leaking and need to change them out but other wise it worked awesome as far as Im concerned.

Does anyone know how many PSI of pressure it has on the outbound side? Like to use it as a pump to transfer liquid?

Does any one have a 12V system and how long does it run on one battery. My sugar bush is 1/2 mile and 60 feet up from my sugar shack that has electricity

60' from electricity use a good extension cord or pick up a 800 watt 2 stroke gen will run 8-10 hrs on a tank of gas (1.1) gal tank
