I am planning on building a new arch to accommodate my new pans I am going to make. My question is, if I line the whole arch with arch board and put expanded metal to hold/help protect the board from the wood blocks when getting tossed in, do you all think it would work as good as if I lined the inside with brick?

what is expanded metal? I would think that the metal would warp over time>?

Its has diamond shaped holes and usually used on areas where dirt, water, mud, too fall through the walk way, I cant think of a good way to explain it.

Yeah, the arch that I bought came with standard red brick..in the bottom of the arch, was a layer of sand. I removed everything and lined the entire inside of the arch with 2" ceramic insulation. then I simply bought firebrick and bricked just the firebox..I used refractory cement to bind it all together. I think the brick cost me $60.

there is a reason virtually everyone uses firebricks.

it works and it's relatively cheap

I think the expanded metal will last a couple of years and then you'll see serious
deterioration from oxidation. It will rust and fall apart, unless it's stainless.
