How much space under pans?

I have a 2X6 flat pan, I was wondering what has worked best for distances between the bricks and bottom of the flat pan. The base stack I have is 10 inch, I may neck it down to 8 inch because it is easier to find.

There were a few threads on this topic last year. They have formulas and people's trial and error. I couldn't find them after a quick search. If you don't have any luck, I'll share some quick math.

In short, I had better boils in the back pan when I opened up the angle between the fire box and the far end of the back pan. I have it gradually slope up and only reach its shortest distance near the back end of the back pan.

It's something I'm always tinkering with so if you come up with something that works well, please pass it along.
