stack questions:

I have a 12 by 4 used wood unit that was switched to oil. It has a 16" chimney and my question is" can this be reduced down". I have talked to a couple of HAVC guys and they can't get over that I will burn 11 gallons a hour on this. I would like to reduce down to 12" or lower for the cost and the area that I have. I built a stick frame building so I need to go through shingles.

That shouldn't be a problem. i looked at a new 4' oil arch this summer, (a buddy bought) it had a 12" smoke stack on it.

My 4X14 oil fired evaporator burns 14.5 gallons of oil per hour. I have 12" stack.

Do you use double wall out of the roof? and do you have a shingle roof or a metal?
