I was thinking that too perfect weather but wrong season, I'm still paranoid this year will be like last. Last year On a hunch that it was going to stay warm I ended up tapping in late Jan, and quit by late Feb....when the tulips bloomed!!!!! in northen indiana! Temps near 80! I sure hope this winter won't be a repeat..Made a few gallons, and a few pounds of sugar....but I wanted so much more...please someone tell me I'm crazy for fearing a repeat of last winter (don't just call me crazy but explain why you think this winter will be better) sorry a little dramatic but I want snow...both for the hunting season, happening now, and the tapping season.

I was thinking of tapping some trees around the house that I don't tap in the spring to see if I could get enough sap to fire up my kids half-pint. I haven't done it yet, but it is awfully tempting. I am very curious to see what it would taste like. I couldn't imagine any thing better than boiling and listening to x-mas music on the radio.

We've been having the weather too, but low 30s at night and 50s in day. was clearing a fallen tree from a path last week and had to cut the top off a bowed over maple, about 4 in diameter at the cut. the next day it was dripping a drop every 2 seconds. I'm too busy getting ready for spring to try the fall run but its tempting.
I have already made one gallon of fall syrup. The taste is great and the sap is testing out at 1.8% on the big trees and 1% on the smaller trees.

The sap has been running like crazy from the sugar maples i have been cutting here in eastern Maine. Makes me excited just seeing it. Wished i had all the trees i have cut in the past week standing on my own property.

Have you tapped any of your trees yet?
