anybody hanging 5 gal buckets from bucket spouts, was going to run tube into them than read about cleaning the lines and thought about just hanging them form spouts, but dont know if the weight would be to much

I hung 50 on bucket spouts last year and had no problems. Had a couple buckets 3/4 full.

Been using plastic buckets for 25 -30 years. Occasionally a hole may rip out but we just drill another hole. We use both 5 and 6 gal pails, and sometimes they aren't big enough.

garyp - I did the drill the hole in the lid thing for the first time on 5 gal buckets this past season - where I had two or more taps near each other. Tubing was flex with 5/16 OD and the holes in the lids were 5/16 and the tubes fit snug. Held the lids on the 5 gal buckets with a 2' chunk of clean slab wood. It all worked great. cleaned and rinsed the assorted length tubes and hope they dried good enough. Placed them in a large cloth bag and hung from a refter. We shall see - hope mildew is not a problem inside the tubes. Ahhhhhhhh! Then the fun part - if I can reuse them. All the assorted sized tubing I had between spiles and lids. Also - all the lids I have with different numbers of holes in them. With the coming season - I shall get another education ---- LOL -----Mike-----

Is anyone hanging 5 gal pails with the 5/16" taps or are you doing it with the 7/16" taps? I can only find one 5/16" tap with a hook and it's a "blue plastic" one for $2 ea. Not sure if it would be beefy enough or if it's worth the money.

I've used tubing run down under the lid of buckets for the last two years and figured I'd try something different. My main problem with the tubing is that if you have a little belly in the line or if some sap bridges over the end of the line and doesn't drip out, when it freezes you have a plug. I've come out several times when it's 33 degrees and the tree is trying to pump sap out and the frozen plug is holding things up. Also had a problem last year with 18" of snow on the ground. I thought I left enough slack in the tubing but some were too short once the snow melted. Thanks!

I've ran a band of wire around the top of my more pliable plastic buckets. this seems to help stabilize the bowing and pinch point at the bucket hole. I still use 7/16 spiles on all my plastic buckets.

We have only 25 taps but they are all 5 gallon plastic buckets on plastic spouts with hooks. Buckets hang from metal handle, not a hole in the side.
