let them soak in a mildly acid solution.

since my back pan is 2 1/2 x 5 I do the normal acid soak/baking soda routine. I then get the pressure washer out and clean the pan. No scubbing, I wouldn't try this with a soldered pan.

We go to Tractor supply and get Milk stone remover .we put one gallon total in our front, rear and steamaway. Build a small fire in the fire box and bring everything to a good simmer. After the fire is out the next day we drain and pressure wash everything. All pans and steamaway look like new.
Works for us

We have a waterloo turbo fisrt gen (6x16). We wash the back pan everyday. We rinse it and after we put filtrate in it and we have a pump who keep the filtrate moving. It stays perfectly clean for all the season. In canada we have a 5x14 wood fired evaporator. We clean it only at the end of the season with acid. We concentrate less so we dont need to clean it during the season.

Milk stone remover and pressure wash. Just as "Jim Brown" said.
