I was just curious if anybody, preferably jimsudz, could tell me more about his evaporator. It looks like a 2.5x8 with lapierre pans, but I'm curious to know more about the arch. I saw it in the member galleries and it caught my eye. Was the arch homemade or made by a friend? I've never seen that style of arch. In a few years I'm looking to move up to a 2x6 or 2.5x8 and I might build my own arch. I'm just curious to know more about the arch/how it was built and if there are any pics of it being built. Thanks for any help. Calvin

Hey Calvin, My evaporator is 2.5x8 lapierre raised flue on a custom arch that I built. I'll have to look for some pics, most were taken on an old phone, and I'm not sure if I can download. I can boil about 75 gal/hr on average, but I have hit 95 gal/hr. Wan't to do some mods to it to stop embers out the stack, and get better gals/cord. I'm having a friend brake some ss panels to close the arch in to dress it up.

That would be much appreciated Jim! Did you use angle iron for the entire main frame? I couldn't tell what you used for the pan rails.

Flat Lander, It seems as though your link did not appear. I would be very interested to see what you are working on. Are you building an arch for raised flue or drop? Thanks, Calvin

Hey Calvin, I used 3 in. angle for the rails,3 in. channel for the base capped with 12ga galvalume, then took 3in heavy wall box tubing and made frame of the fire box. The rest is 12ga. galvalume. The front is 3/8 in plate, the door is 3/8 framed with 2 in. angle and gasketed with 1in.rope. The stack collar is also 3/8 in. I have some photos of it when I removed it from shanty to pour concrete.hope they will help59685969597059715972

ok cadoctor must have been early yesterday when i posted here's my photobucket link and on this site if you look in home made maple equipment find new arch post that I started
I used 2-1/2 3/16 angle and made it 8' long for hot air exchange box at stack end. In the pics you will see some one inch square tubing I'm using for the frame of the box. Want to finish that box this week and start on AOF tube system.

Wow Flat Lander! That looks pretty good! I like the design! I don't know much about the whole hot air reclaim box. How does it work?
