Is there any thing. I can add to hard water to stop the mineral deposits on the bottom of the pan?

Sorry, couldn't resist. I live in Kalamazoo and we have really hard water too. When I did a test boil last year, I ended up with a bunch of mineral deposits in the pans. It cleans up rather easily with vinegar. We put in a softener recently, but I'm not sure I'd want the deposits from that in my pans either.

Add vinegar to the water. It helps immensely!
