I have syrup from the spring that I filtered, heated and sealed into 6 gallon , food grade containers. Can I conceivably fill mason jars, seal them, put them in a water bath and have them be done? or do I have to re heat the syrup and put the syrup into the jars?

as long as you "seal" the lid after your syrup reaches 180 you should be good. You can go to 185 just to be sure.

The best and safest bet is to re heat the syrup and put it into the jars hot.
As long as you don't heat the syrup up to high you should not have to refilter it, I do to just to be on the safe side.
Like Bee1st stated you will have to bring the syrup up to at least 180, go much above 185 and I would think that you would want to filter it.
Also a little tip when using glass jars. Place them into a warm oven say the lowest it will go, ours goes down to 190. Or in a bath of hot water.
Remove one at a time when bottling up syrup. This will help keep the syrup from cooling down to fast if pouring into a cold jar, helps to be sure a good seal on the jars.

Thank you for your advice. I think I will just reheat and bottle.

Undrbelly,
To answer your original question, you can place cold (and filtered) syrup into jars and into a water bath. Monitor the temp of the SYRUP with a thermometer. Shut off heat and remove when temp of SYRUP reaches 185.
