cutting fire brick

Just wondeing what is the best way to cut fire brick. last time i used a tile wet saw and it was kinda hard on it. just wondering what you guys use. thanks.

I just used an old cheap circular saw and several masonary blades its was a little rough and the saw is pretty much junk when your done as it get all the stone dust sucked into it. but it works.

I also used my tile saw and found it worked very well, it made cuttings angles a snap.

I just scored the brick on both faces with a masonry chisel, then held the brick in the palm of my hand and struck it with a mason's hammer until it broke. It worked well when the cut was near the middle. On cuts needing a piece less than 1/4 brick it sometimes broke off the score lines. Then I used extra refractory or chiseled more off as was the case. I think rental stores might have brick cutters too, manual high leverage opposing chisel blades make it break where you want (years ago my uncle was a mason (50's-80's) and had one but I haven't seen one since. His was a lever that raised and lowered the top chisel, he pushed down, then 1 hit on the top chisel with a hammer. I rented a comercial wet saw cost 50 bucks. I was glad to have it on the compound angles under a raised flue pan. Worth the money to me.

go to home depot, buy the cheapest tile saw available. I got a plastic wet saw for i believe less than $40. I actually did two bathroom floors, and my fire brick. Oh should mention it was only half bricks. My two cents.

Masonry blade with a circular saw,one blade cut all of the brick for our arch and was still usable afterwards.

I would recommend against it if you value the saw. I used an old Skil saw that was not healthy anyways to brick my 2x6 and it sounded a lot worse at the end. I would go cheap or old circular saw.

I installed a 1/8 masonery blade in my Dewalt 14" metal cutting chop saw. Cut on the narrow side(stand up). Cut like butter. Use a dust mask.
