Hi all,

This is my First post, and my first time ever making syrup.

I have 24 taps, and buckets. Just trying it to see how things go.

So far I've made 3 gallons of syrup. with a turkey fryer burner and a few pots.

I just managed to pick this unit up real cheap.

It's 36x36x10 inch.

Most of what you see in the pics is old sap, rust is mainly on the seams.

Question is. How to clean all the old sap and rust out of it. And how to prevent it from rusting in the future.

Thanks

P.S. great site, very informative.

Hi!

You might be amazed how well that'll clean up. Use plenty of hot water, elbow grease and a stainless steel scrubber.

When you're not using it in the off season, keep it in a warm, dry spot. I used to keep my old pan in the attic. Good Luck!

If it wants to rust any during the off season, a little crisco will stop that, but will have to be washed off before next season begins. :)

Thanks all

I'll start with vinager and hot water. Then some hot water and scrubber.

From there we'll see how much is left.

I think I will give it a light coat of oil before storing.

Looks like it made of tin and once the coating is removed and the rust starts, theres no stopping it.
