I have a chance to buy one for 200.00 just wondering if this will work for say 500 taps

need more info about the pump.
Is it a Piston pump, SP11, SP22?
Or is it a vane pump?

the tag says type BB,rpm 470 and one hp

I'm thinking you have BB2 piston pump. I don't have any specs for the BB2, but the BB4 specs show a 2.5hp motor, and the BB2 (like the later SP11's and SP22's) is rated at about half of its 'big brother'. If the pump is in good working order and your tubing system is tight, I think it would be fine for 500 taps. $200 sounds fair. I've seen them go for more than that. They reccomend 1 cfm per 100 taps. The SP11 is rated at 5cfm and I'm almost certain the BB2 is just a little more than that- maybe 5.5cfm. Don't exceed the rated r.p.m. and keep good oil it it (change it often)- it will give years of service when treated properly. -Steve
