Hi I just picked up my new evap and it can with a factory preheater it is three pipes wide then they go up and go back the opposite way then it does that again so now I want to know what need the sap should enter the high end or the low end cause the previous owner had the sap enter the high end and also it has no valve for vapor lock.

The sap should enter on the low end of the heater. Heat raises. It should have a vent to above the head tank or a petcock valve to drip into the flue pan to stop the vaper lock. The temp of the sap at exit will be between 175 and 200 deg.

The Small Brothers raised flue I picked up used a few years ago was set up to feed the high end and come out the low end. I know this seems wrong but this is not like a Leader preheater. It had 3 3/4 pipes that started at back of pan and went to front and back twice then into another header. I cut it down to use on my 2x6 and feed the same way and it works good.

I've seen preheaters both ways. Mine is from www.smokylakemaple.com. It enters and exits the back of the hood. It can be set up either way but I have it entering low and exiting high. No vent, no vapor lock.

Disclaimer: mine has a 3/4" vent with tubing up into the rafters that does "burp" once in a while.
