I just got a heck of a deal on a small brothers lightening pan. It is 40 by 48 with dividers and draw off boxes. It is soldered. The people I purchased it from said it was tin, but I am pretty sure it is stainless. How can you tell.

Put a magnet to it,if it sticks it's tin.Cheap stainless will also hold a magnet but not as well as tin. That's been my experience anyway.

Tin will never shine like stainless. It'll have a patina to it, and is prone to rusting.
Stainless from the late 80s and early 90s (430 grade stainless) is magnetic and if not cleaned and stored well will develope pin holes. In the mid 1990s, most went to 304 stainless which is not magnetic.
Post some pics - that may help, too.
