I was searching the forums and saw somewhere the person used it for hombres and a quick google search I found this http://www.amazon.com/Buon-Vino-Mini-Jet-Filter/dp/B0064OG4PQ would it work?

its possible. but, the viscosity of syrup is greater than wines and juices. you could possibly burn up and ruin the pump. the pumps used on a normal filter press is a gear pump and made for high pressure movement of viscous liguids. basically it would be like trying to blow 1 gallon of honey through a 3/16 inch tube. youll wear yourself out before its all through the tube. just my .2

That filter is likely not made to take 180+ heat, nor does it look to have any space for filter air buildup. Until you can get the real thing, just use cone or flat filters. Read some posts by mountainvan, he uses flat filters with filter aid and he makes lots of syrup. Cone filters have one problem, the gook settles toward the bottom, so prefilters are not uniformly utilized. Flat filters work better for that. just use 4-5 prefilters, as one plugs, carefully remove it and the next layer will flow again. The use of filter aid will improve the results too, as it builds a filter cake to spread out the sugarsand and it gives far more extended use of the prefilters.
